The Table of Community

This is the fourth and final sermon in the Easter season series, “Feast of Feasts.”

The Table of Community

Categories:

Today’s sermon is based on the text from Acts 3:42-47, about the “devotion” of the earliest Christian Community. Rev. Cari also refers to the Gospel text for the day, John 10:1-10, and quotes her mentor, the Rev. Tony Robinson, in a recent sermon on that text.

The link between the two texts is the kind of community the Christian church is called to be, a communion of Jesus-followers who are also “shepherds” to one another, and in service to the world.

The church has an opportunity in this sheltering time, and as restrictions begin to open up, to be responsive to both these inclinations in ourselves. Rev. Cari draws our focus to both Jesus, the gate in whom we go in & out in safety, and to the bonds of compassion that anchor our community.
