Pentecost Sunday, often referred to as the “Birthday of the Church” is a story of a radical reset for the followers of Jesus. This morning, we heard two texts: the Valley of the Dry bones in Ezekiel 37 and the story of the Day of Pentecost from Acts 2.
We began in dryness, “doom” and uncertainty, which contributes to our silence before the powers. Rev. Cari quoted from a post by John Pavlovitz on Substack about the church’s silence being why folks are leaving.
She also wondered about the role of longing – is the longing of the disciples for Jesus what turns their uncertain waiting into openness to the Holy Spirit? Maybe our own longing can prepare us for the “reset” God is preparing for us as well.
