For the 6th Sunday after Pentecost, Rev. Cari preached on Mark’s story of Jesus asleep in the boat while a storm rages around him (Mark 4:35-41). The disciples, frightened by the storm, wake him up and ask him, “Don’t you care that we’re about to be killed?” And he stills the storm.
Rev. Cari’s take on this story is that it’s more than a miracle story. It’s actually a corporate experience of transformation and healing, a corporate movement from fear or anxiety, to trust and faith. And the way the disciples make that move, is via awe.
Thanks to the generous sharing of Diana Butler Bass, she spends the rest of the sermon opening up the experience of awe, according to current research. Awe is really good for us! Both our physical and mental/emotional health benefit from regular small doses of awe. Listen to find out more!
