Sin is not what it used to be

Sin is not what it used to be

It’s the first Sunday in Lent, and Rev. Cari begins a new series today on Sin and Salvation… so guess where she starts? At Sin.

Her texts are Romans 7:14-25, Paul’s quintessential reflection on what we might call “the human condition” and Matthew 4:1-11, the story of Jesus’ temptations in the wilderness.

Listeners will have to pardon the fact that we were practicing how to “take a poll” at Crossroads this morning, in preparation for the Annual Congregational Meeting, and focus in on the distinction Rev. Cari is making. Sin as a matrix we all live within, or a “power” rather than sins as acts of commission or omission.

The book she recommends to the congregation in this sermon is called In the Name of Jesus and it is by the late Henri Nouwen. Check it out!

Stay tuned for further sermons in this series… next week: Grace.
