The sermon for July 11, the 7th Sunday after Pentecost, jumped off both 2 Samuel 7:1-14a and Ephesians 2:11-22. It’s the last week before Crossroads moves to a fully “hybrid” worship, with some folks continuing on Zoom, and others returning to in-person worship in our sanctuary. How fitting that the texts offer us a chance to explore what kind of “temple” God intends to build!
Rev. Cari starts with King David, and his desire to build a “settled” Temple for God’s name to reside in… which gets met by God’s own desire to build a reign of justice and peace with David’s descendants.
Then she moves to the Ephesians text as she opens up this moment in the life of our community of faith. God’s intention is to create a faithful community of Jesus followers with “those who are far off and those who are near.” As Crossroads moves into this next adaptation, we pray for grace to attend us all.
