This morning we celebrated the Reign of Christ – the final Sunday in the Christian year – by welcoming new members of Crossroads. The sermon text was John 18:33-38, part of Jesus’ trial before Pilate in which the two of them verbally dance around the question of who is king.
It just so happens that a hearing that was scheduled to take place the previous week, involving the Rev. Gretta Vosper and Toronto Conference of the United Church, was averted by the parties reaching an agreement. So Rev. Cari spends some time talking about that situation in the life of our church, because (as she says) of its “pertinence to our life, vision and identity at Crossroads.”
Read the message of the Moderator, the Rev. Richard Bott, Rev. Cari mentions in the sermon.
Read the statement issued by the parties to the agreement.
Read the news story Rev. Cari also mentions by Douglas Todd in the Vancouver Sun, which is re-posted on Crossroads’ news page with permission.
Rev. Cari takes the opportunity Mr. Todd offers in quoting our Moderator, to “articulate our common purpose” at Crossroads United Church, at the very end of the sermon.
