For Thanksgiving Sunday, Rev. Cari preached on the story in Luke 17:11-19 about Jesus’ encounter with 10 “lepers.” She framed the story itself thanks to Anne Lamott, whose book Help, Thanks, Wow! describes three essential ways we humans approach God.

Rev. Cari begins with a question: “How easy is it for you to ask for help?” and while folks pondered that, she launched into a personal story about a time she really needed help. (You’ll have to listen right to the end to see how that story turned out… she kept the congregation in suspense.)

In the meantime, she also walked through a discussion of the story of Jesus with those folks with the skin condition. Who is more likely to be grateful… the powerful ones? The ones on the outside?
