Easter’s Invitation

Easter’s Invitation

Categories:

For Easter Sunday, Rev. Cari preached on the resurrection narrative as found in Mark 16:1-8. In this version of the story, the women go to the tomb just after sunrise to anoint Jesus’ body. The discover – to their great alarm – that the heavy stone has been rolled away from the entrance to the tomb, and that Jesus has been “raised.”

This story has been intriguing to the rational “mystery-solving” mind since it first began to be told. Our tradition doesn’t share it for information, however, but for meaning-making. In this sermon, Rev. Cari invites the listening congregation to consider what “heavy stones” are weighing us down, and to affirm that Easter is an invitation to watch, listen, and observe how God rolls those stones away.

Easter invites us to learn the discipline of love; to cooperate with God in following the way of Christ.
