A Message from the Policy Board

Half Time Appointments

In the Policy Board’s previous communication, we announced that we had commenced the development of position descriptions for the two half-time appointments for the period from March 17, 2025, to Rev. Cari’s last day with us, April 30, 2025.

The administrative work, including posting, review, and approval by the Pacific Mountain Regional Council has been completed. We are pleased to announce that Rev. Jim Short has been appointed to the acting Lead Minister half-time position. Rev. Jim will work collaboratively with Rev. Cari who has been appointed to the corresponding departing minister half-time position during this transition period.

The work of developing a position description for the acting Lead Minister supply appointment effective May 1, 2025, is also well underway. We anticipate sharing more information regarding regional council approval and posting of this position in the near future.

Search and Profile Team

The search and profile team assembly is almost complete. We believe that with the final pieces in place, we will have a skilled, diverse, and dedicated group of team members who will garner the trust of the Crossroads community. Their responsibilities will be divided into two main areas: creating our Community of Faith Profile and selecting and presenting a Lead Minister candidate for consideration by the congregation.

Upon formation of the team and under the guidance of Rev. Victoria Andrews, work will immediately commence on Crossroads community of faith profile. The purpose of this profile is to articulate our beliefs, ministry needs, and financial realities, and it is a crucial step before posting a position on the United Church’s HR website.

It is important to note that the Crossroads governance model holds the Lead Minister accountable to the Policy Board. As such, the United Church recommends that the Board refrain from taking on the responsibilities of the search and profile team to avoid any perception of undue influence on the process. While we have the responsibility to ensure that the necessary actions are taken, it is the search and profile team, and the congregation as a whole that will be responsible for the work and decision-making processes in the coming months.

Sincerely,

Crossroads Policy Board: Doug Shorter, Dixie MacLeod, Randy Bentayen, Deborah Weber, Pam Shaw
