God is With Us

God is With Us

Categories:

Rev. Cari preached for the fourth Sunday in Advent, on Matthew 1:18-25, Matthew’s version of the birth of Jesus. And though it’s Joseph’s turn, in this text, Mary still features prominently!

Rev. Cari first unpacks the word “virgin” as quoted from Isaiah 7, then goes on to explore where the truth of the text lies. And she finds it in a couple of places: 1) in the initiative of God; and 2) in the name given the child – Emmanuel, which means “God is with Us.”

At the close of the sermon, she identifies a way in which Crossroads has been deepening community during this Advent season, through the work of the Discernment Group, and then reveals that our Community might just be “pregnant” with a new ministry we weren’t actively expecting to materialize!

You’ll have to listen to find out what that is…
