Is Taking Care of Myself Selfish?

Is Taking Care of Myself Selfish?

Categories:

The final Stump the Preacher request for the summer of 2022 lands on Labour Day weekend, and invites Rev. Cari to reflect upon what Jesus might have had to say about self-love. In particular, in his response to the question, ‘What is the greatest commandment of all?’ in Mark 12:28-34.

Along the way, she touches on a bit of the history of the Labour movement, “the Great Resignation” and “quiet quitting” of today, and really presses the question of what is appropriate withdrawal in this Covid-season when we are all a little frayed around the edges.

The sermon closes with the recitation of our Psalm for the day, Psalm 131, and an image from that Psalm, which gives us all permission to rest in the presence of God – the lap of God – regularly as part of the rhythm of our active faith.
