Guest preacher the Rev. Maggie Enwright, Coordinating Minister at Pacific Spirit United Church in Vancouver, preached on Acts 16:9-15 at Crossroads this morning. Her sermon raises the “heretical” question of whether we in the United Church of Canada have turned the concept of inclusion into a sacred cow.
Through personal story-telling, exploration of the text of the day, and examination of our habits of thought in the United Church, Maggie invites the congregation to examine the origins of our boundaries, to push past the limits of our own judgmentalism, and to reaffirm the core values that cause us to press for justice and peace in our world today.
In so doing, she also offers insight into personal practices that build bridges in potentially polarizing situations, and affirms the Gospel call to radical hospitality born of compassion.
