Sufficient Grace

Sufficient Grace

Categories:

For the 6th Sunday after Pentecost, Rev. Cari preached in proximity to both the Gospel text (Mark 6:1-13) and the Epistle for the day (2 Corinthians 12:2-10).

She detected a similarity of themes between those two texts, and with the events of our week, as we have endured the worst heat-wave ever experienced in these parts, and received news of the lifting of COVID restrictions for faith communities.

There is a moment of humility and self-awareness that all of these events bring us to, not unlike the paradoxical words of Paul: that our “weakness” or our vulnerability will be what saves us, because we will be relying on God, and not our own ingenuity.

We are all connected, and we stand at a multiple “crossroads of crossroads” at this time. This is not an easy time, and requires us to be more aware of our inner life as we face the challenges of our outer world.  To do so will be to have the capacity to see what God is doing, and to join God there, with sufficient grace.
