For the Sunday after Easter, Dr. Bruce Harding reflects on the text from Luke 24:13-35, the story of “the road to Emmaus.”
He first lifts up the moment of recognition, when the Risen Christ breaks the bread and the two disciples know that it is Jesus with them. Then he notes how early sharing food together was sacramental for the followers of Jesus.
Then he shares stories from his own experience and from the wider community… moments when people recognize the humanity of others who are not the same as themselves. He suggests this is the way to true community and invites the congregation to practice offering this same recognition to everyone they meet… not just at church, but in life.
