This sermon for Trinity Sunday is in response to the killing of George Floyd and the reality of anti-black racism and white privilege. Rev. Cari addresses the final words of I Corinthians 13, as well as the first chapter of Genesis, in relationship to the reality of systemic racism and the doctrine of the Trinity.
In her sermon, she privileges the voices of black activists like Zoé Samudzi and Adele Halliday (see below) and she owns her own racism and white privilege.
She closes by naming to her congregation that she (like Paul to the Corinthians) is making an appeal, for the sake of the Gospel, and for the vision of God’s reign of justice, peace and love on this earth.
