Preaching on I Corinthians 11:14-34, Rev. Cari addresses a text that outlines Paul’s concerns with the table practice of the church in Corinth. As is often the case, he is not impressed with the Corinthian Christians, and he’s not reluctant to tell them why!
Rev. Cari attempts to bridge the cultural distance between the text and our current time and place, then she gets underneath the sacrament of communion to the Passover meal. Finally, she walks into the text with Paul, looking at the behavior that so outrages him, and the theological reasons for that.
Then she turns to the here and now… the world in pandemic. During this part of the sermon, she shares information about our partners in mission at Mama Orphans Children’s Home in Busia, Kenya. Finally, she invites the Crossroads congregation into a discipline of attentiveness, lament, discernment, and action, as we continue in faith together in this time.
