For the 6th Stump the Preacher sermon, Rev. Cari was given the task of addressing the first chapter of 2 Thessalonians, a text she had never preached on before. The requester’s specific problem was with the text’s suggestion that Jesus would be returning as a punishing avenger… a question of both the apocalyptic nature of the text, and a theological question about the character of God.

So this is the task she took on in this week’s sermon. The accompanying reading from the Hebrew Bible, Genesis 18:16-33, provides a counterpoint for her.

During the sermon, she used the flip-chart to draw a diagram about the significance of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection for Paul, so a photo of that diagram is attached.
