Yet another sermon in our “Holy Shift” series, this time focussing on Acts 16:6-15. There are a lot of hard to pronounce Biblical place names in this story about the travels of Paul, Silas and Timothy! They have a hard time with the Holy Spirit “preventing” them from travelling to certain places. Eventually, they land in Philippi, and on Sunday they head for the river, where Gentile women are worshipping God. Paul preaches, Lydia is baptized, and voila! Another community is born.
This sermon is about the “holy shift” of discernment, or, in other words, how to surrender being God to God (rather than trying to be God ourselves), and accept the guidance that God gives. Even when it’s a “big red stop sign,” the Holy Spirit is still present.
