For the third sermon of this series on the Prayer of Jesus, Rev. Cari opens up Daniel 7:9-14, and then turns to Luke 17:20-21. Here, the contrast between God’s reign in “heaven” and how things are going “on earth” is most stark, and the text from Daniel really helps to clarify the differences between the “beastly” reign of earthly rulers, and the “more than human” reign of God.
Rev. Cari begins with a memory from her grade four classroom, and a project she was assigned. How she draws the connection from there to the petitions of Jesus’ prayer are yours to discover by listening!
The invitation is given, in Jesus’ prayer and in this sermon, to make these petitions our own, so that we can be full participants in God’s reign of presence and love, and collaborators with God in the unfolding of justice and peace.
