The Trinity, the three-fold mystery at the heart of Christianity, has been a metaphor for diversity for centuries, encompassing the three primary ways we experience the Holy: through God, through Jesus, and through the Holy Spirit. The United Church of Canada itself is also an example of diversity in action, being the first inter-denominational union in the Christian world, in 1925. This morning, Dr. Bruce Harding asks, “Can we bring this history to bear on our current reality, in which our community is increasingly diverse, following many faith traditions? Can we see the Holy in each other, regardless of the language we use for the divine?”
