On Palm Sunday Rev. Cari preached on the dramatic entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, contrasting it with the presumed military procession of Pilate. This contrast rises out of the work of New Testament scholars, the late Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan, in their influential 2006 book, The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach About Jesus’s Final Days in Jerusalem.
Rev. Cari’s exploration of Mark 11:1-11 led to an articulation of God’s invitation to decide, moment by moment, whose parade we want to be in. She offered several examples of “joyful, foolish and serious” acts of Jesus-followers in the past few months right here and now at Crossroads.
The sermon ended with prayer: “Hosanna!” (Save us now) on the threshold of Holy Week.
