“Good Grief”

“Good Grief”

Categories:

Rev. Cari invites the congregation into a reflection on the last few years, returning to the topic of the “covid curve” introduced early in the COVID pandemic (see attached image) and wondering where we currently find ourselves on that curve. She then introduces Jeremiah 8:18-9:1, a cry of grief from the heart of the prophet at the moment just before the Exile of the people of God.

Rev. Cari wonders about our response to the multiple griefs of our time. How often do we really let ourselves feel the impact of the losses we have experienced? When is the last time we let ourselves cry? She identifies this time of dislocation and grief as an honest way through the time.

“Where is God?” she wonders, with the prophet’s question “Is there no balm in Gilead?”, and then, in context of the “theological emergency” of Jeremiah’s time, she shows how Israel answered that question. Please listen to discover more…
