Daring Justice 2

Daring Justice 2

Categories:

For this second sermon on the Mission theme of “Daring Justice” Rev. Cari preached on Luke 6:17-26. This text is Luke’s version of the beatitudes, and it is both more “practical” than “spiritual” as it blesses “you who are poor now.” It also includes a section of “woes” directed at “you who are rich now” which has a bit of a punch for us here and now.

Rev. Cari linked this theme to the screening of “Picking up the Pieces: The Making of the Witness Blanket” which she had watched (twice!) during the previous week.

She told the story of the film, as a journey toward an art project, a family’s journey to healing, and a journey for all of us toward reconciliation and decolonization. She then asked the congregation to consider how thinking about this movement toward justice as a healing movement changes their assumptions and perceptions.

This is a longer sermon than usual. Rev. Cari hopes that it might inspire you to watch the film as well, and then to take your next step in the healing journey of decolonization.
