You are invited to join us for an evening of “Learning about Global Food Security and Letter-writing”.
Crossroads is happy to host the Canadian Foodgrains Bank for this evening of learning on Wednesday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m.
Join Carol Thiessen (senior policy advisor with Canadian Foodgrains Bank in Winnipeg) and Florence Nduku (monitoring and evaluation coordinator for a number of agriculture and livelihoods projects in sub-Saharan Africa, based in Nairobi) for a 90 minute program in response to the global food crisis.
As a global food crisis becomes ever more dire—and climate change causes growing harm to small-scale farmers—the FoodGrains Bank are currently advocating to the Canadian government on increasing support for small-scale food producers. They are seeing interest from the Minister of International Development, the Hon. Harjit Sajjan, to take action in support of more climate resilient food systems for farmers in the Global South.
As there will likely be focus on food and climate change adaptation at the UN Climate change conference (COP27) in November, they are advocating for Canada to make a funding announcement for climate resilient food systems there. Hence, in the lead-up to COP, they are inviting as many Canadians as possible to stand up together and send letters advocating for Canada to announce that new funding will go to support farmers in building resilience in the face of climate change.
This evening will include the screening of a short film, Q&A with Florence, and step-by-step training on how to write a letter in a matter of minutes.
We are planning to host the event in person, but will pivot to Zoom if that becomes necessary.
